**Mumbai, India** – A fire broke out in the basement of the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) Metro Station on Friday, forcing the temporary suspension of passenger services. The fire, which started around 1:10 PM, involved wooden sheets, furniture, and construction materials located 40-50 feet below the station.
Heavy smoke quickly filled the area, prompting immediate action by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL). The Fire Brigade was alerted, and eight fire engines were deployed to control the blaze, which was fully extinguished by 2:30 PM.
As a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety, services at the BKC station were halted. Passengers were advised to use the Bandra Colony station for alternative boarding. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The BKC station is part of Mumbai’s first underground Metro line, connecting Aarey Colony to Bandra-Kurla Complex.
In a separate development, Mumbai Metro One announced an extension of operating hours on November 20, the Maharashtra Assembly polling day. The extended hours are aimed at supporting polling staff by providing them with convenient transportation to and from their designated polling booths.
