Fri Nov 15 10:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Islanders Down Canucks 5-2, Varlamov Shines in Net
**VANCOUVER, British Columbia** – The New York Islanders rebounded from two consecutive overtime losses with a decisive 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night. Semyon Varlamov made 24 saves for the Islanders, while Anders Lee led the offense with a goal and an assist.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Scott Mayfield, Pierre Engvall, and Noah Dobson (into an empty net) also found the back of the net for New York. Mayfield and Engvall scored their first goals of the season.
Vancouver’s lone goals came from Jonathan Lekkerimaki, who scored his first NHL goal early in the first period, and Tyler Myers in the third. Dakota Joshua made his return to the Canucks lineup after undergoing surgery for testicular cancer.
The Islanders’ offense exploded in the second period, scoring twice in the first two minutes. A seemingly harmless shot from Mayfield deflected off two Canucks sticks and past a surprised Kevin Lankinen, followed shortly after by Engvall’s rebound goal.
The Islanders continue their five-game road trip with a visit to Seattle on Saturday, while the Canucks host Chicago on Saturday night and Nashville on Sunday night.
