In a recent interview, Maheep Kapoor, wife of actor Sanjay Kapoor and star of Netflix’s “Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives,” revealed the unconventional and unexpected start to their relationship. Maheep admitted that their first meeting was meant to be a casual fling and she had no plans to marry him at the time.
The chance encounter happened at a party, which Maheep crashed uninvited while intoxicated. Despite her less-than-ideal introduction, she was warmly welcomed by Sanjay’s family, including his brothers, Anil and Boney Kapoor, and his sister-in-law, the late Sridevi. “They still accepted me and said, ‘Wow, what an amazing future daughter-in-law,” Maheep recalled.
The decision to get married was equally unplanned. There was no traditional proposal; Sanjay simply told her, “Look, we are getting married,” while they were partying at a Colaba Taj nightclub. Maheep, in between tequila shots, simply replied, “Okay, fine.”
The couple tied the knot in 1997 and have been married for over 25 years. They have two children together, daughter Shanaya and son Jahaan. Maheep’s story highlights the unexpected twists and turns of life and how a casual encounter can blossom into a long-lasting and loving relationship.
Maheep recently returned to Netflix’s “Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives” for its third season, alongside her friends Neelam Kothari, Bhavna Pandey, and Seema Kiran Sajdeh. The season welcomed new additions, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Shalini Passi, and Kalyani Saha Chawla.
