Fri Nov 15 12:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Basketball Star Caitlin Clark Brings Big Buzz to LPGA Pro-Am

BELLEAIR, Fla. – WNBA star Caitlin Clark brought her golf game and a large crowd to the LPGA Tour’s pro-am on Wednesday, drawing more spectators than the tournament typically sees for its regular rounds.

Clark, the WNBA Rookie of the Year, played nine holes with top-ranked golfer Nelly Korda and the back nine with Annika Sorenstam, host of the tournament called “The Annika.” Despite her busy basketball schedule, Clark showcased her golfing talent and even contributed a putt from 3-point range.

Korda, returning to the course after a minor neck injury, praised Clark’s relaxed demeanor and skill, noting her natural talent and ability to play comfortably under media scrutiny. Clark, who has an endorsement deal with Gainbridge, the tournament sponsor, also participated in a women’s leadership summit hosted by the company.

The event drew a large gallery of fans eager to see Clark, and she signed autographs for hundreds of them after the pro-am concluded. Her appearance generated significant excitement and was seen as a positive development for women’s golf.

“It can only help grow women’s golf,” said Brittany Lincicome, who brought a basketball for Clark to sign for her daughters.

Korda, who has a close relationship with Clark through Instagram messages, was impressed by her impact on the crowd. “To see the influence that she has on people, bringing people out here, and to see how amazing of an influence she is just for sports, was really cool to see firsthand today,” she said.

Clark, who also played in the John Deere Classic pro-am last summer, said she enjoys escaping to the golf course.

Korda, who has already clinched LPGA Player of the Year for the first time, is looking to win the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship next week, which carries a $4 million prize.
