Fri Nov 15 16:56:12 UTC 2024: ## Archer’s Absence From IPL Mega-Auction Raises Questions

The final list of 574 players set to be auctioned for the 2025 IPL has been announced, but the absence of England fast bowler Jofra Archer has surprised many.

Archer, who was initially registered for the auction, had been included in the initial list of 1,574 players. However, after discussions between the IPL governing body and franchises, he did not make the final cut.

While the inclusion of veteran James Anderson, who last played a T20I 15 years ago, raises eyebrows, Archer’s omission is more perplexing. Despite a history of injuries, Archer recently featured in the West Indies-England T20I series and showed signs of resurgence.

There are two possible scenarios for Archer’s absence. Either franchises showed no interest in him due to his injury history, or he voluntarily withdrew from the auction.

Given the presence of over 200 overseas players on the list, including 37 other Englishmen, it seems unlikely that franchises would have completely overlooked Archer.

A more plausible scenario is that Archer withdrew, potentially influenced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to manage his workload with the upcoming 2025-26 Ashes in mind. However, withdrawing from the mega-auction without injury-related reasons would invoke penalties under IPL regulations, barring him from the following mini-auction.

If franchises indeed opted against picking him, Archer remains eligible to register for next year’s IPL auctions.

The mystery surrounding Archer’s absence from the IPL mega-auction adds an intriguing twist to the upcoming auction, leaving fans to speculate about his future in the tournament.
