**St Lucia:** Liam Livingstone’s remarkable luck, surviving three dropped catches, proved crucial as England secured a series-clinching victory over West Indies in the third T20 match on Thursday. The tourists chased down a 146-run target with four balls to spare, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
England’s chase was initially shaky, losing three early wickets in the powerplay. However, Sam Curran’s fluent 41 off 26 balls provided a much-needed boost. Livingstone then took center stage, capitalizing on his dropped chances to smash 39 runs off 28 balls, including 16 runs from a single Alzarri Joseph over. Despite being dismissed with four runs needed, Livingstone had steered England to the brink of victory.
Earlier, England’s bowlers restricted the West Indies to 145-8, with Saqib Mahmood and Jamie Overton taking three wickets each. Mahmood, who had a particularly impressive performance, took three wickets in the powerplay, taking his series total to a record-breaking eight powerplay wickets in a bilateral T20 contest.
While the West Indies were able to recover somewhat thanks to Rovman Powell’s half-century, they ultimately fell short of a competitive total. The hosts also struggled with dropped catches, missing four opportunities in the match, the joint-most in a T20 in their history.
England’s captain, Jos Buttler, praised his team’s performance, highlighting their strong starts in the powerplay across all three games. Meanwhile, West Indies captain Rovman Powell acknowledged his team’s disappointing performance, particularly their struggles with early wickets.
