**WASHINGTON** – Incoming President Donald Trump has unveiled an ambitious education platform aimed at dismantling what he calls “wokeness” and “left-wing indoctrination” in America’s schools.
Trump’s vision, detailed throughout his campaign, includes a sweeping overhaul of educational practices, targeting issues like critical race theory, transgender inclusion, and diversity initiatives. He vows to use federal funding as leverage, threatening to cut off money for schools that defy his policies.
“On my first day in office, I will cut funding to any school pushing critical race theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual or political content on our children,” Trump declared.
His platform calls for massive funding preferences for states and schools that embrace conservative policies, including ending teacher tenure, implementing universal school choice, and allowing parents to elect school principals.
Trump also plans to abolish the US Education Department, a long-standing goal of conservative politicians. He argues that the department has been “infiltrated by radicals” and believes education is best left to states and local communities.
Critics, however, have denounced Trump’s vision as a politically-motivated attack on public education.
“This is fear-based, non-factual information, and I would call it propaganda,” said Wil Del Pilar, senior vice president for Education Trust. “There is no evidence that students are being taught to question their sexuality in schools. There is no evidence that our American education system is full of maniacs.”
Trump’s strongest weapon in imposing his vision is his authority over civil rights enforcement. He can potentially use the Education Department’s power to cut funding to schools and colleges that fail to comply with his interpretations of civil rights laws.
Opponents warn that Trump’s proposed changes would undermine public education and disproportionately harm students who rely on federal funding for essential services.
The battle over Trump’s education policies is expected to be fierce. While he has hinted at potential legislation, many of his most ambitious goals would require congressional approval or protracted legal battles.
Despite the controversy, Trump’s administration is poised to significantly alter the educational landscape in the United States, leaving both supporters and critics bracing for a long and contentious struggle.
