Fri Nov 15 11:39:11 UTC 2024: ## Dehradun Car Accident Claims Six Students’ Lives: Speeding and Possible Intoxication Investigated

Dehradun, India – A tragic car accident in Dehradun’s ONGC Chowk early Monday morning claimed the lives of six young students, leaving a community in mourning. The victims, all residents of Dehradun except for one from Himachal Pradesh, were identified as Atul Agrawal (24), Rishabh Jain (24), Navya Goel (23), Kamakshi (20), Guneet (19), and Kunal Kukreja (23).

The accident occurred when a speeding Innova, a newly purchased vehicle without license plates, rear-ended a container truck, causing the car to be mangled beyond recognition. The impact was so severe that the car’s roof was torn off, resulting in the decapitation of two passengers.

Initial investigations suggest that speeding was the primary cause of the accident, with CCTV footage showing the Innova accelerating sharply before the collision. The truck driver was not at fault. Police are currently investigating the possibility of intoxication being a factor, with a video surfacing showing the students partying and drinking alcohol shortly before the accident. Autopsy results are pending.

The driver of the Innova, Atul Agrawal, did not survive the crash. Police are exploring legal alternatives as charges cannot be filed posthumously. Witnesses have reported seeing the car speeding erratically earlier in the evening, with one restaurant owner narrowly avoiding a collision.

The accident has sparked widespread grief and shock in Dehradun, with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressing condolences to the bereaved families. The families of the victims are urging the public to refrain from speculating on the students’ activities that night and to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the accident. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of speeding and the importance of responsible driving.
