Fri Nov 15 15:29:19 IST 2024: ## Six Students Killed in Dehradun Road Accident, Speeding Blamed

Dehradun, India – Six young students tragically lost their lives in a devastating road accident on Monday night in Dehradun’s ONGC Chowk. The accident occurred when a speeding Innova, driven by Atul Agrawal (24), collided with a container truck.

The victims, identified as Atul Agrawal, Rishabh Jain (24), Navya Goel (23), Kamakshi (20), Guneet (19), and Kunal Kukreja (23) from Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, were returning from a party hosted by survivor Siddhesh Agrawal (25), who is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

Police investigations suggest that speeding was the primary cause of the accident. CCTV footage revealed the Innova, a new vehicle without license plates, was driving at moderate speeds earlier but accelerated sharply near the ONGC intersection, allegedly attempting to overtake a luxury car. The impact was devastating, with the Innova’s roof torn off, causing two passengers to be decapitated.

The truck driver is not considered at fault, and police are exploring legal alternatives as the driver of the Innova, Atul Agrawal, did not survive.

The accident has sparked concern about the safety of roads in Dehradun. Reports indicate that the Innova had been driving recklessly earlier that night, with a restaurant owner stating he narrowly avoided a collision with the speeding car.

While a video showing the students allegedly drinking and partying before the accident has emerged, police are awaiting autopsy results to determine whether intoxication played a role in the crash.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow at the loss of life, offering his condolences to the bereaved families. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the devastating consequences of speeding.
