**New Delhi, November 15, 2024:** Guru Nanak Jayanti, the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, is being celebrated across India today. The occasion also coincides with Karthika Purnima, a significant religious festival. Several states have declared a public holiday to commemorate the day, impacting bank operations.
As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday list, banks will remain closed in the following cities: Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Telangana, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, and Srinagar.
Further, the stock market is closed today due to the holiday. Trading on both the NSE and BSE will resume on Monday, November 18.
**Upcoming Bank Holidays:**
* **November 18 (Monday):** Kanakadas Jayanti – Banks will be closed in Bengaluru.
* **November 20 (Wednesday):** Maharashtra Assembly Elections – Banks will remain closed for voting.
* **November 23 (Saturday):** Seng Kut Snem – Banks will be closed in Shillong.
RBI categorizes bank holidays into three types: Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday, Banks’ Closing of Accounts Holiday, and Holidays Under the Negotiable Instruments Act.
**Note:** This month, a total of 12 days are declared as bank holidays, including regional and state holidays. Additionally, banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays, and every Sunday.
**Other News:**
The Uttar Pradesh High Court has ordered a CBI investigation into the alleged nepotism and corruption in the appointment of 186 people in the state legislature. The investigation revealed that 1 out of 186 appointments favored relatives of VIP officials or politicians.
