**NEW DELHI** – Delhi has implemented GRAP-3, a set of air pollution control measures, following a sharp deterioration in the city’s air quality. The announcement came after a meeting chaired by Delhi’s Transport Minister Gopal Rai with officials from various departments to strategize the implementation of the restrictions mandated under GRAP-3.
Rai confirmed that Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has been in the “very poor” category for the past two days, although showing slight improvement compared to the previous day. He stated that further improvement is expected, but the preemptive implementation of GRAP-3, triggered by AQI exceeding 400, aims to mitigate worsening conditions across the National Capital Region (NCR).
Addressing concerns about buses entering Delhi from other states, Rai highlighted that a significant number originate from BJP-ruled states. While letters have previously been sent to these states requesting cooperation, Rai assured that enforcement teams will be deployed to take action against any violating vehicles.
When questioned about the possibility of implementing odd-even vehicle restrictions and the potential closure or adjusted timings of government offices, Rai emphasized the government’s priority is the health of Delhi’s residents. He confirmed that discussions are underway regarding both these measures and decisions will be announced shortly. The government has pledged to take “strictest possible action” if necessary.
