Wed Nov 13 06:30:00 UTC 2024: ## Curry Leads Warriors Past Thompson and Mavericks in Emotional NBA Cup Showdown
SAN FRANCISCO – Stephen Curry delivered a dominant performance, scoring 37 points, including the Warriors’ final 12, to lead Golden State past the Dallas Mavericks 120-117 in an emotional NBA Cup game Tuesday night. The game saw Klay Thompson return to Chase Center for the first time since leaving the Warriors to join Dallas in July.
Thompson, who received a warm welcome and was honored by the Warriors with a “captain hat” tribute for fans, finished with 22 points. He embraced Curry before tip-off and briefly gave Dallas a lead with a 3-pointer before Curry took over. Curry shot 14-for-27, including five 3-pointers, and added nine assists and six rebounds. He also sparked a 20-3 run to start the third quarter.
Luka Doncic, playing despite a left groin strain, led Dallas with 31 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Dereck Lively II contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.
The game was filled with emotion, particularly in the second quarter when Warriors guard Moses Moody fouled Thompson hard while attempting a dunk. Thompson also spent time guarding his replacement, Buddy Hield, in the fourth quarter.
The Warriors, who also received 16 points from Jonathan Kuminga and 14 from Hield, host Memphis on Friday. The Mavericks travel to Utah to face the Jazz on Thursday night.
