Wed Nov 13 01:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Bengaluru Airport Achieves 75% Success Rate in Predicting Fog
**Bengaluru, November 13, 2024:** Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has made significant progress in mitigating the impact of fog, a recurring problem during the winter months.
A collaborative study between the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), initiated in 2019, has resulted in a new fog prediction tool with a 75% success rate.
The study, which involved developing a Numerical Simulation Tool, aimed to predict the onset, intensity, and dissipation of fog around the airport.
“We have achieved a success rate of 75% during the previous winter season,” said Prof. K.R Sreenivas, who led the study. “We were able to predict the next day’s early morning fog by 7 p.m. the previous evening.”
The data generated by the tool has proven beneficial for ground handling services at the airport, allowing them to implement safety measures and deploy additional personnel in advance.
While the study has now been completed, BIAL and JNCASR are seeking a partner to distribute the data to all stakeholders on a regular basis.
The research, initially planned for 40 months, experienced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent flight cancellations.
