Wed Nov 13 11:07:51 UTC 2024: ## New Zealand’s Mitch Hay Breaks T20I Record with Six Dismissals
**Dambulla, Sri Lanka:** New Zealand wicketkeeper Mitch Hay has etched his name in the record books, becoming the first player to achieve six fielding dismissals in a T20 International match. In the second T20I against Sri Lanka at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Hay took five catches and effected one stumping, dismissing six Sri Lankan batsmen in the innings.
Hay’s victims included Kusal Perera, Asalanka, Rajapaksa, Vellalage, and a sharp catch to dismiss Theekshana. He also completed a stumping to dismiss Pathirana. This feat surpasses the previous record of five dismissals held by India’s legendary former captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who achieved the milestone in a T20I against England in Bristol in 2018.
While Dhoni held the solo record, Mohammad Shahzad, Irfan Karim, and Kieron Pollard are tied for second with five dismissals each.
Despite Hay’s record-breaking performance, New Zealand struggled with the bat and were bowled out for 108 in 19.3 overs. Sri Lanka’s Hasaranga claimed four wickets, while fast bowler Pathirana bagged three. However, Sri Lanka’s chase fell short by five runs as they were dismissed for 103, leveling the two-match series at 1-1.
