Tue Nov 12 18:04:02 UTC 2024: ## Stalin Slams Palaniswami for “Hate Speech”, Defends Naming Schemes After Karunanidhi
**Chennai, November 12, 2024:** Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday responded to criticism from former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, accusing the latter of lacking decency and civility in his political discourse.
Palaniswami had earlier criticized the DMK government for naming schemes and institutions after the late Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Stalin retorted, stating that Palaniswami was unable to accept the positive impact these schemes were having on the people of Tamil Nadu.
“The government is committed to ensuring everyone benefits from these welfare schemes,” said Stalin. “The fact that people are supporting the DMK government is upsetting the opposition.”
He further emphasized that the DMK government was also commemorating other prominent leaders like Periyar, Ambedkar, Vallalar, and Pandit Iyothee Thass by observing specific days in their memory and launching schemes in their names. He pointed out that the DMK government continues to operate the “Amma Unavagams” (food canteens) initiated during the AIADMK rule and even named a Children’s Home in Virudhunagar after AIADMK founder MGR.
Stalin concluded by stating that he finds it disheartening to engage in political debate with leaders who resort to divisive rhetoric.
