Mon Nov 11 15:45:45 UTC 2024: ## Israeli Forces Push Deeper into Gaza, Raising Fears of Permanent Displacement

**CAIRO** – Israeli forces have intensified their offensive in Gaza, sending tanks into the western side of the Nuseirat refugee camp on Monday. This incursion, along with continued airstrikes, has resulted in at least 11 Palestinian deaths since Sunday night, according to Palestinian medics.

The Israeli advance has sparked panic among residents, with many fleeing their homes with whatever belongings they could carry. One resident, Zaik Mohammad, described the tank’s arrival as a complete surprise.

Thousands of Palestinians have been ordered to evacuate various areas, raising concerns that they may not be allowed to return. These evacuations come amid the 14th month of conflict in Gaza, with Israel concentrating its operations in the north and center. The stated aim of these operations is to prevent Hamas militants from regrouping and launching further attacks.

The possibility of a ceasefire has further diminished after Qatar, a key mediator, suspended its efforts due to a lack of commitment from both Israel and Hamas.

The Israeli military has been accused of exploiting Gaza’s civilian population for military purposes, a claim they deny. They have also been criticized for besieging hospitals and refusing to allow their evacuation, despite shortages of food, medical supplies, and fuel.

While Israel has expanded the humanitarian zone in Gaza and allowed more supplies to enter, Palestinian and UN officials insist that no area within the enclave is safe.

The conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, has resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 Israelis and around 43,500 Palestinians. The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate as the conflict enters its 14th month.
