Wed Nov 13 02:46:19 UTC 2024: ## India Celebrates Children’s Day: A Tribute to ‘Chacha Nehru’

India commemorates Children’s Day, also known as ‘Bal Diwas,’ on November 14th, marking the birth anniversary of the nation’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Nehru, fondly called “Chacha Nehru” by children, was a staunch advocate for children’s rights and believed in providing them with proper resources for growth. He envisioned an inclusive education system, accessible to all, and played a crucial role in establishing renowned educational institutions like the IITs, AIIMS, and IIMs.

His deep affection for children, whom he considered the nation’s most precious resource, led to the designation of his birthday as Children’s Day. This day serves as a reminder of India’s commitment to its young citizens’ well-being and development.

Schools across the country organize special events and programs to celebrate Children’s Day, including games, competitions, and showering children with gifts.

Previously, Children’s Day was celebrated on November 20th, coinciding with the UN’s “World Children’s Day.” However, following Nehru’s death in 1964, the Indian Parliament passed a resolution to officially observe his birthday as Children’s Day.
