Tue Nov 12 16:16:32 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Power Discoms Connect 6,791 Homes in Unauthorised Colonies: LG Intervention Brings Relief

**New Delhi:** Following the intervention of Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, Delhi’s power distribution companies (discoms) have provided electricity connections to 6,791 households in unauthorised colonies. The move brings relief to thousands of residents who had been facing difficulties in securing power connections due to bureaucratic hurdles.

The Raj Niwas, the official residence of the LG, announced the development on Tuesday via social media, stating that the remaining applications are being processed and connections will be issued soon.

This significant step stems from a directive issued by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in October, following the LG’s intervention. The DDA had previously required a no-objection certificate (NOC) for power connections in unauthorised colonies, but has now waived this requirement for specific categories of habitations, including those regularised by the MCD.

The issue of the NOC requirement was first raised by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs and MLAs, who met with the LG to express their concerns.

This initiative represents a major step towards ensuring basic amenities for residents of Delhi’s unauthorised colonies, who often face challenges in accessing essential services.
