**Dahod, Gujarat:** Dahod district police have successfully reduced road accidents by a significant 85 cases this year compared to the previous year. This achievement, attributed to a multi-dimensional approach involving public awareness, road engineering improvements, and stricter enforcement, has also saved 69 lives.
The police undertook a comprehensive analysis of accident data from the past 10 years and implemented both short-term and long-term road engineering improvements to address identified accident hotspots. They have also focused on increasing traffic awareness amongst citizens through seminars, rallies, and pamphlet distribution.
Simultaneously, the police implemented a robust enforcement strategy, patrolling national and state highways with an interceptor van equipped with speed guns to catch speed violations, helmetless driving, and wrong-side driving. Additionally, they utilized breath analyzers to crack down on drunk driving cases.
Further, the police leveraged the district’s CCTV network, ‘Netram,’ to identify traffic rule violators and issue e-challans. The initiative also involved comprehensive data collection on traffic violations, driving behavior, wrong-side driving spots, and nighttime black spots.
The Dahod police’s efforts have resulted in a significant reduction in road accidents. As of September 2024, they have filed 15,065 cases for over-speeding, 13,372 cases for wrong-side driving, 1,538 cases for rash driving, and numerous cases for drunk driving, demonstrating their commitment to enforcing traffic regulations.
This success is a collaborative effort involving the Dahod Police, the administration, and the RTO department. The significant reduction in road accidents and the saving of 69 lives highlight the effectiveness of their combined efforts to ensure safer roads in the Dahod district.
