Tue Nov 12 17:43:14 UTC 2024: ## IOCL Refinery Blast in Mathura Injures 12, Sends 3 to Delhi
**Mathura, Uttar Pradesh:** A major blast occurred at the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) refinery in Mathura late Tuesday evening, injuring 12 people and sending shockwaves across the area. The blast, which reportedly occurred in the ABU plant, was heard up to 1 km away and was followed by a fire.
The ABU plant, which had been shut down for 40 days, was restarted recently. Initial investigations suggest the blast might have been caused by a leak in a furnace. The injured, including Production Manager Rajiv, were rushed to a nearby hospital, with some being referred to Apollo Hospital in Delhi.
Witnesses reported seeing a massive fire following the blast and hearing the explosion’s deafening sound, forcing residents to flee their homes. Fire tenders were deployed to the site to extinguish the blaze.
Hospital management confirmed that Irfan Ahmad, who sustained severe burns, was transferred to Apollo Hospital in Delhi. His family accompanied him.
“We were informed about the accident,” said Pushpraj, brother of injured Ajay. “We were not allowed inside. We don’t know how or when the accident occurred.”
While investigations are underway to determine the cause of the explosion, refinery officials have maintained that the situation is under control. They confirmed that two people sustained less than 50% burns, two others had 20% burns, and three were sent to Apollo Hospital. Five injured are being treated at the refinery’s in-house hospital.
The incident echoes a similar explosion that occurred at the IOCL refinery in Vadodara on Monday, resulting in two deaths and one injury.
**The IOCL is yet to release an official statement regarding the Mathura blast.**
