**Sharjah, UAE:** Afghanistan’s rising star, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, continued his remarkable form in 2024, smashing his third century of the year in the third ODI against Bangladesh. With his eighth ODI ton, Gurbaz surpassed Indian legend Virat Kohli in a major record list but fell short of Pakistan’s Babar Azam and South Africa’s Hashim Amla.
Gurbaz reached his milestone in a record-breaking 46 innings, while Kohli took 68 outings to achieve the same feat. Babar reached eight ODI centuries in 44 innings, with Amla holding the record at 43 innings.
The match itself saw Bangladesh post a total of 244 runs thanks to a strong performance from Mahmudullah (98) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (66). Bangladesh, who opted to bat first, made two changes to their lineup with Zakir Hasan and Nahid Rana replacing the injured Najmul Hossain Shanto and Taskin Ahmed respectively.
Afghanistan will now look to chase down the target and secure a victory in the series.
