Tue Nov 12 13:38:12 UTC 2024: ## India’s CISF to Get First All-Women Reserve Battalion

**New Delhi:** The Union government has sanctioned the creation of India’s first all-women Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) reserve battalion, marking a significant step in enhancing the force’s capabilities and representation.

This new unit, with a strength of 1,025 personnel led by a senior commandant-rank officer, will be formed from within the existing sanctioned manpower of the CISF, which currently stands at approximately 200,000 personnel.

The decision comes in response to the growing demands placed on the CISF, particularly at airports and other critical installations.

The CISF currently operates 12 reserve battalions, which are deployed for reinforcement during specific operations like elections or guarding strategic locations like the Parliament House complex.

With a large number of women working at facilities under CISF security, including 68 airports, the Delhi Metro, and historical monuments like the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort, the need for an all-women reserve battalion was strongly felt.

The force, established in 1969, provides counter-terrorism security at numerous nuclear and aerospace installations, as well as private sector facilities such as Infosys offices and the Reliance refinery.
