Tue Nov 12 02:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Norman Powell Steps Up as Paul George’s Replacement for the Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers appear to have found a capable replacement for Paul George in Norman Powell, who is exceeding expectations early in the season. Powell, acquired from the Portland Trail Blazers in 2022, is averaging a career-high 25.7 points per game, shooting an impressive 51.6% from the field and 49.4% from beyond the arc.
“I’ve always envisioned myself being in this position and wanting the opportunity,” Powell said after a recent game where he poured in 26 points, including six three-pointers. “Learning from guys like Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Paul George, and Kawhi Leonard has helped me get to this point.”
Powell, who had never averaged more than 19 points in a season prior, is taking advantage of the increased opportunity following George’s departure, averaging 17.4 field goal attempts per game, up from 10.9 last season.
“I saw it as addition by subtraction,” Powell said about George’s exit. “I want to be the starting two guard, and the opportunity is in front of me. I prepared myself, I’ve always seen myself as a starter in this league.”
With Powell’s strong start and the Clippers currently sitting at 5-3, it seems like they may have found their answer at the shooting guard position.
