**LOS ANGELES** – Tom Cruise has revealed the title and a teaser trailer for the upcoming eighth installment in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” The film is slated for a May 23, 2025 release.
“Every choice has led to this,” Cruise captioned an Instagram post unveiling the film’s poster. The accompanying teaser trailer, also released on Instagram, offers a glimpse into the franchise’s past and hints at the intense action to come in the new movie.
In a subsequent post featuring the trailer, Cruise added, “Our lives are the sum of our choices.”
Returning for “The Final Reckoning” are series stalwarts Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Vanessa Kirby, alongside new additions Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Hannah Waddingham, Nick Offerman, Katy O’Brian, and Tramell Tillman.
The film marks the eighth collaboration between Cruise and writer-director Christopher McQuarrie. The duo are also producers on the Paramount and Skydance production, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and Chris Brock serving as executive producers.
While Cruise has expressed his desire to continue the “Mission: Impossible” franchise well into his 80s, Paramount reportedly wants to promote “The Final Reckoning” as the franchise’s final chapter, aiming to maximize audience interest. The film, which is nearing a $400 million budget due to production delays, is also being considered for a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
The previous film, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” received critical acclaim, boasting a 94 percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and grossing $571 million worldwide. Chief film critic for The Hollywood Reporter, David Rooney, called the series “remarkably consistent” despite its lengthy run spanning over three decades.
