**Imphal, November 12, 2024:** Manipur remains on edge following a deadly gunfight between security forces and suspected militants in the Jiribam district on Monday, November 11. Eleven militants were killed in the exchange of fire, which also left two CRPF personnel injured, one critically.
The incident sparked fresh violence across Imphal Valley, with armed groups from both sides exchanging fire in multiple locations. In response, the Kuki-Zo Council called for a shutdown in all hill areas of the state from 5am to 6pm on Tuesday to mourn the deaths of the suspected militants.
During the clashes, suspected militants torched several shops and houses in and around the Jakurador Karong market, along with the Borobekra police station and an adjacent CRPF camp. The gunfight lasted for 40-45 minutes before security forces regained control of the situation.
The district administration has imposed prohibitory orders in Jiribam to prevent further violence, and security operations are ongoing to locate missing persons and flush out remaining militants. Reinforcement teams from the Assam Rifles, CRPF, and state police have been deployed to the area.
The situation in Manipur remains volatile, with tensions running high between the warring factions.
