**Cuddalore, November 11, 2024:** A 39-year-old man, Vijaykumar, from Vyasarpadi in Chennai, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly duping a 32-year-old woman, R. Kalaiselvi, out of ₹3.75 lakh on the pretext of offering an online part-time job.
Kalaiselvi, a resident of Panruti, came across a YouTube message advertising an online part-time job that promised quick earnings. Intrigued, she contacted the advertiser who instructed her to download an app on her phone. After making an initial investment, Kalaiselvi was led into further investments before realizing she had been scammed.
She reported the incident to the Cuddalore Cyber Crime police who traced the account to Vijaykumar. He was subsequently arrested and remanded in custody.
This incident highlights the increasing prevalence of online scams, and the Cuddalore district police have urged the public to be cautious about high-profit investment advertisements and fake investment apps and websites. They advised citizens against transferring money to unknown bank accounts.
