**Bengaluru, November 12, 2024:** The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is revolutionizing its bus ticketing system by embracing cashless payments. This move, driven by passenger demand, aims to simplify daily commutes and eliminate the hassles associated with cash transactions.
To facilitate cashless payments, KSRTC has equipped its buses with advanced Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) that accept UPI, debit, and credit cards. Over 10,000 smart ETMs have already been deployed across the fleet of 8,800 buses, with plans for further expansion.
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy lauded the initiative, emphasizing its benefits for both passengers and conductors. “This addresses the recurring issue of passengers not having exact change,” he stated.
The ETMs will also validate National Common Mobility Cards and KSRTC-issued bus passes, a feature set to be fully operational within a month.
KSRTC Managing Director V. Anbu Kumar highlighted the technical advancements, noting that the new Android-based ETMs feature touchscreens, wireless connectivity, and faster processing speeds.
Furthermore, KSRTC is integrating a dynamic QR payment system, becoming the first transport corporation in Karnataka and one of the few in India to fully embrace digital payment solutions.
This initiative is being implemented in partnership with EbixCash Ltd., which has been contracted to manage the Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS). The five-year agreement includes the design, installation, maintenance, and operation of the ITMS, encompassing cashless ticketing and integrated digital payment solutions.
Under this partnership, KSRTC aims to deploy an additional 15,000 devices over the next five years, ultimately moving towards fully automated fare collection.
