Tue Nov 12 17:57:39 UTC 2024: ## Jio Star: New Streaming Service Emerges Ahead of Viacom18-Star Merger

**Mumbai, India:** The highly anticipated merger between Reliance Jio’s Viacom18 and Star India Private Limited is expected to finalize this week, bringing together popular streaming platforms JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar under a new brand: Jio Star.

A newly launched website, jiostar.com, has ignited speculation about the upcoming streaming service, expected to launch on November 14th. While the site currently only displays a “Coming Soon” message, it suggests users will soon have access to content from both JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar in one location.

Interestingly, the chosen domain name, Jio Star, differs from the previously anticipated “JioHotstar,” leading to lively discussions online. A Delhi developer had even purchased the “JioHotstar” domain, hoping to negotiate a payment from the companies. However, the domain was later acquired by two individuals from Dubai, who ultimately decided to gift it to Reliance Jio.

Despite the domain name change, the emergence of the Jio Star website confirms the impending merger and its potential impact on the Indian streaming landscape.

**Sports Content Remains Exclusive on Disney+ Hotstar:** While Jio Star is set to offer a consolidated platform for a wide range of entertainment content, live sporting events, including the highly popular Indian Premier League (IPL), will reportedly remain exclusively available on Disney+ Hotstar.

**Satellite Internet Advancements:** Meanwhile, India’s telecommunications regulator, TRAI, is expected to finalize recommendations for new satellite communication rules by December 15th. This significant development will pave the way for improved satellite-based internet access across the country, with companies like Starlink set to launch their services soon.
