**Mysuru, India** – Renowned Ashtanga yoga teacher Sharath Jois tragically passed away on Monday, November 11th, at the age of 53, while on a teaching tour in Virginia, USA. His cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Jois, a native of Mysuru, India, was a prominent figure in the global yoga community, carrying on the legacy of his grandfather, the late yoga icon K Pattabhi Jois, who popularized Ashtanga yoga worldwide.

Sharath Jois was known for his dedication to preserving his grandfather’s teachings, becoming a celebrated teacher himself and attracting A-list celebrities like Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow to his classes. His influence extended beyond Hollywood, as former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton credited his breathing technique, Alternate Nostril Breathing or Nadi Shodhana Pranayama, with helping her manage the stress of the 2016 presidential election.

Jois’ passing has sent shockwaves through the yoga world. Fellow yoga teachers and practitioners have expressed their grief and condolences, praising his contributions to the field. D Shrihari of GSS Yogic Foundation in Mysuru described Jois as a “Mount Meru of Ashtanga Yoga” who had “taken yoga to great heights.”
