Tue Nov 12 00:54:51 UTC 2024: ## New Zealand’s Tour Takes a Hit as Ferguson Injured, Milne Called In

**Dambulla, Sri Lanka:** New Zealand’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka suffered a setback on Monday with the news that star bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series due to a left-calf injury.

Ferguson, who had just delivered a sensational hat-trick in Sunday’s T20I victory, experienced discomfort while bowling in the second over of the match and was forced to leave the field. Initial medical assessments revealed that he wouldn’t be fit for the ODI series, prompting his immediate return to New Zealand for scans to determine the severity of the injury and rehabilitation period.

The Black Caps have called up experienced fast bowler Adam Milne as Ferguson’s replacement, with Milne set to join the squad on Tuesday. Head coach Gary Stead expressed disappointment over Ferguson’s injury, highlighting the leadership and bowling prowess he brings to the team.

“We’re gutted for Lockie,” said Stead. “He showed in the space of just two overs what an asset he is with the ball and he’s also brought a lot of leadership to this group, so he’ll be a big miss heading into an important ODI series for us.”

Stead, however, remained optimistic about Milne’s ability to fill the void, emphasizing his experience and pace. “Adam is a like-for-like replacement who brings genuine pace and plenty of international experience, so we’re looking forward to welcoming him into the group,” he said.

The three-match ODI series is set to commence in Dambulla on Tuesday, with New Zealand hoping to maintain their momentum despite the loss of Ferguson.
