Mon Nov 11 12:00:00 UTC 2024: ## BJP Demands Action Against Rahul Gandhi for “Lies” During Maharashtra Campaign

**Mumbai:** The BJP has filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India, demanding action against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for allegedly spreading false information during his campaign for the upcoming Maharashtra elections. The ruling party accused Gandhi of making “false and unverified claims” aimed at inciting “enmity and ill-will” between Maharashtra and other states.

The BJP’s complaint specifically targets Gandhi’s statements regarding the manufacturing of Apple iPhones and Boeing airplanes in other states, claiming they are being done at the expense of Maharashtra. The party claims these statements are false and misleading, citing Maharashtra’s leading position in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) with over Rs 70,795 crore received between April and June 2024-25.

The BJP alleges that Gandhi, despite receiving a prior notice, has repeatedly made “baseless allegations” against the party, solely for electoral gains. They argue that his rhetoric is a blatant violation of the Election Commission’s guidelines emphasizing “issue-based debates” and avoiding false statements during campaigning.

The BJP has called upon the Election Commission to reprimand, censure, and restrain Gandhi from further spreading misinformation. They have also demanded the filing of a police case against him, along with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, for violating the Model Code of Conduct.

The Election Commission is yet to respond to the BJP’s complaint. It remains to be seen how they will address these allegations and the potential consequences for Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party.
