Tue Nov 12 06:18:58 UTC 2024: ## Asian Paints Share Price Falls Amidst Stiff Competition and Challenging Market Conditions

**Mumbai, India** – Asian Paints, India’s leading paint manufacturer, has seen a significant decline in its share price after reporting a challenging second quarter performance. The company’s consolidated net sales fell by 5.3% year-on-year to ₹80.3 billion, driven by increased competition that impacted market share and sales volumes.

Profit after tax (PAT) also witnessed a drop, falling from ₹12.1 billion in the same period last year to ₹6.9 billion. The domestic decorative business recorded a 0.5% decline in volume, resulting in a 6.7% reduction in revenue. Continuous rainfall and floods in some regions also negatively affected consumer demand.

Operational performance also took a hit, with EBITDA falling from ₹17.2 billion to ₹12.4 billion, and margins contracting by 500 basis points to 15%. This decline reflects rising input costs and weak demand in key markets.

Following the release of the quarterly results, several brokerages downgraded the stock, further adding pressure on the share price. Asian Paints’ stock has plummeted 12.3% over the past five days, 16.1% in the last month, and 25% year-to-date.

While facing challenges, Asian Paints is tackling competition from rivals such as Birla Opus, JSW Paints, and JK Paints and Coatings. The company is implementing strategies such as limited price increases due to rising input costs, launching new products, and exploring strategic acquisitions to strengthen its portfolio.

Despite these challenges, Asian Paints remains optimistic about its long-term growth prospects. The company has set a target of ₹550 billion in revenue in the coming years, expecting a compounded growth rate of at least 12% in revenue and profit. Its strong data-driven supply chain strategy, utilizing AI and ML tools, allows for efficient demand forecasting and direct supply to retail stores.
