**COLUMBUS, OH** – A Columbus man, Shane Smith (48), has been charged with kidnapping after allegedly abducting his 13-year-old stepdaughter from her home on South Huron Avenue. The incident triggered an AMBER Alert after the girl failed to show up at school, where her bus was scheduled to arrive around 6:00 am.

According to police reports, security cameras showed the girl leaving the residence around 5:00 am. Her father contacted the school, who confirmed she was not present. A student then informed a school counselor that Smith had planned to pick up the girl and take her to another state.

Columbus Police launched an investigation and located the girl unharmed. The suspect vehicle was later found in Clark County, where Smith faces other charges, including felonious assault from October 2023 and drug possession from February 2024.

While Smith has been charged with kidnapping, further charges are possible. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is expected to release more information about the incident.
