Sun Nov 10 16:24:14 UTC 2024: ## Ukraine and Russia Engage in Largest Drone Attacks Since War Began
**Moscow and Kyiv:** In a significant escalation of the ongoing conflict, Russia and Ukraine engaged in their largest drone attacks against each other since the war began, according to official statements from both sides.
On Saturday night, Russia’s defense ministry reported intercepting 84 Ukrainian drones over six regions, including some approaching Moscow, causing the diversion of flights from three major airports in the capital. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s air force claimed that Russia launched 145 drones towards all parts of the country, with the majority being shot down.
This escalation comes amidst speculation surrounding the incoming US administration under President-elect Donald Trump and his approach to the conflict. While Trump has previously stated his ability to end the war quickly, he has not yet offered concrete details on his strategy.
The attempted strike on Moscow by Ukraine was the largest attack on the capital since the war began and was described as “massive” by the region’s governor. While most drones were downed, five people were injured and four houses caught fire in Ramenskoye, south-west of Moscow, due to falling debris, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
In Ukraine, at least two people were injured after a drone hit the Odesa region, with images showing flames and damage to buildings. The Ukrainian air force reported shooting down 62 of Russia’s Iranian-made drones and losing 67.
The recent drone barrages coincide with reports of significant territorial gains by Russian troops in October, marking their largest advance since March 2022, according to the AFP news agency. However, Sir Tony Radakin, the UK’s army chief, stated that Russia suffered its worst month for casualties in October, averaging about 1,500 dead and injured each day.
The incoming US administration’s stance on the conflict remains unclear, with some former advisors suggesting a focus on peace rather than supporting Ukraine’s territorial gains. However, a spokesperson for Trump distanced him from these remarks.
The Kremlin, meanwhile, has expressed positive signals from the incoming administration, citing Trump’s past campaign statements about wanting peace and not seeking Russian defeat.
The escalation in drone attacks and the uncertainty surrounding the US administration’s approach to the conflict have heightened tensions and raised concerns about the future trajectory of the war.
