Sun Nov 10 11:43:27 UTC 2024: ## 3.5-Foot Patient Receives Revolutionary Robotic-Assisted Knee Replacement

**Bangalore, India:** A groundbreaking Total Knee Replacement (TKR) procedure was recently performed at Narayana Health City on a patient suffering from dwarfism and severe osteoarthritis. This complex case, marked by significant deformities and atypical bone proportions, required a highly customized approach utilizing state-of-the-art robotic-assisted technology.

The patient, Raveendra Ittangudi, had previously undergone surgery to lengthen his thigh bone, but his short stature presented significant surgical challenges. Standard knee implants were unsuitable due to his disproportionate femur dimensions.

To overcome this hurdle, the team at Narayana Health City employed cutting-edge technology. Using CT imaging and 3D modelling, they designed patient-specific implants that precisely matched Ittangudi’s unique bone structure, ensuring accurate rotational alignment for optimal joint stability and function.

“This was a complex case requiring a customized solution,” explained Dr. Prashanth B N, Consultant Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement. “We created implants that replicated the natural condylar proportions, allowing us to restore knee function while minimizing complications associated with his complex anatomy.”

Dr. Arun Ranganathan, Director & HOD, Orthopedics, Spine & Trauma, highlighted the hospital’s commitment to comprehensive orthopaedic care, stating, “Narayana Health City is equipped with advanced solutions for complex cases, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.”

The successful procedure marks a significant advancement in treating knee osteoarthritis, particularly in patients with varied and challenging anatomical structures. Ittangudi, now free from pain and able to walk normally, expressed immense gratitude for the care he received, stating, “I can’t thank them enough for helping me regain my mobility and independence.”

This case underscores the growing importance of patient-specific implants in treating advanced orthopedic conditions, paving the way for more personalized and effective solutions for patients with complex needs.
