**Durban, South Africa:** Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has expressed strong criticism towards India’s team management for their inconsistent handling of rising star Rinku Singh’s batting position. Chopra argues that Rinku, a consistent performer in the T20 format, is being unfairly treated and should have been promoted to the No. 4 spot in the first T20I against South Africa.
Chopra pointed out that Rinku, who has a remarkable strike rate of 173.14 in his T20I career, thrives when given more opportunities to bat. He has consistently performed well in the powerplay overs and deserves a chance to showcase his skills higher up the order.
“He’s always been among the runs when he gets more balls to face. He’s scored a fifty every time and is India’s crisis man. His strike rate has never been an issue. The first match was perfect for him to move up the order, but they kept him at No. 6,” said Chopra.
While acknowledging Rinku’s ability to finish games, Chopra stressed that he is not a power hitter like Andre Russell or Hardik Pandya. “He can hit sixes, but he can’t muscle the ball like them,” he added.
Chopra suggested a possible batting order with Hardik Pandya at No. 6, allowing Tilak Varma to bat at No. 5. He believes this arrangement would provide better opportunities for both players to showcase their strengths.
Chopra’s comments highlight a growing debate about Rinku’s role in the Indian team. His consistent performances have earned him a spot, but inconsistent usage by the team management has raised questions about their long-term plans for the young talent.
