Sat Nov 09 16:40:54 UTC 2024: ## EU Pledges Unwavering Support for Ukraine Amidst Trump’s Win

**Kyiv, Ukraine** – The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, has pledged unwavering support for Ukraine during his visit to Kyiv, reassuring the nation amidst concerns following Donald Trump’s US presidential victory.

“The clear purpose of this visit is to express European Union support to Ukraine – this support remains unwavering,” Borrell, who is set to leave office next month, stated on Saturday. He stressed that this support is crucial for Ukraine to continue defending itself against Russian aggression.

Borrell’s visit comes at a time of uncertainty, as Trump’s comments during his campaign raised concerns about the future of US support for Ukraine. Trump had suggested that Ukraine might need to cede territory to Russia to reach a peace deal, an idea rejected by Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged Europe and the US not to weaken their ties with Ukraine, emphasizing that concessions to Russia are unacceptable. “We need sufficient weapons, not support in talks,” Zelenskyy declared, urging for continued military aid.

Borrell, acknowledging the potential for changes in US policy under the new administration, emphasized the need for the EU to do more, including providing greater military support, training, and financial aid. He stressed that Russia’s President Putin is not interested in negotiations unless forced.

The EU has already committed over $125 billion to supporting Ukraine since the 2022 invasion, while the United States has contributed more than $90 billion. Maintaining US support is seen as crucial for Ukraine’s defense, especially as some European countries, like Hungary, remain opposed to military aid.

On the frontlines, Ukrainian soldiers continue to face intense fighting against Russian advances. Overnight, Russia launched a barrage of drones and missiles, resulting in at least one death and more than 30 injuries across Ukraine. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reiterated Kyiv’s stance against concessions, stressing that “appeasement of the aggressor will not work.”

With the US leadership transition and ongoing conflict, the EU’s commitment to supporting Ukraine remains a crucial factor in ensuring the country’s defense against Russian aggression.
