**Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir:** An Army officer was killed and three soldiers were injured during a gunfight with terrorists in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The deceased officer, Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar, was a part of the 2 Para (SF) and was killed in action during a joint counter-terror operation launched in the Bhart Ridge area.
The encounter broke out around 11 am when joint search parties of the army and police intercepted terrorists in a forest, a few kilometers from where the bodies of two village defence guards (VDGs), Nazir Ahmad and Kuldeep Kumar, were found earlier this week. The VDGs had been kidnapped and killed by terrorists on Thursday, prompting a massive search operation in the area.
The recent encounter marks an escalation in the ongoing anti-terror operations in the region following the VDGs’ deaths. The army’s 16 Corps confirmed the incident on X, expressing condolences for the loss of Naib Subedar Kumar.
The injured soldiers are currently receiving medical attention, and a detailed investigation into the incident is underway.
