Fri Nov 08 07:51:27 UTC 2024: ## Qantas Plane Makes Emergency Landing After Engine Failure in Sydney

**Sydney, Australia -** A Qantas Boeing 737-800 bound for Brisbane experienced an engine failure shortly after takeoff from Sydney Airport on Friday, prompting the aircraft to circle before making a safe emergency landing.

The incident occurred simultaneously with a grass fire breaking out along a parallel runway at the airport. While the airport confirmed the fire has been brought under control, it is unclear if the two events were related.

Qantas, while not disclosing the number of passengers on board, confirmed there were no injuries. The airline’s Chief Pilot, Captain Richard Tobiano, expressed understanding of the passengers’ distress and assured that support would be offered to all affected individuals.

The airport remains operational, with its main runway in service. However, flight delays are anticipated due to the grass fire and are expected to continue while the affected runway undergoes inspection.

An off-duty pilot, who happened to be a passenger on the affected plane, reportedly assisted the Qantas pilot during the emergency landing. The aircraft was airborne for approximately 20 minutes, circling above the airport before landing safely.

Qantas has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the engine failure.
