Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has slammed the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee for overlooking Ranji Trophy record-holder Jalaj Saxena for the India A squad. Saxena, with 400 wickets and 6000 runs in the Ranji Trophy, remains the only player to achieve this feat in the tournament’s history. Despite his impressive domestic record, he was once again excluded from the India A team selection for the upcoming matches against Australia A.
Harbhajan, in response to a tweet highlighting Saxena’s record, questioned the relevance of domestic tournaments with players being picked from the IPL. He stated, “Agree with you. He should be considered at least for India A. Useless of playing Ranji now? People are getting picked from IPL.”
This criticism comes on the back of India’s disappointing 3-0 series defeat to New Zealand at home. Harbhajan expressed his disappointment, saying that everyone had anticipated a 3-0 win for India. He praised New Zealand’s performance, highlighting how Tom Latham’s side took advantage of the conditions and outplayed the hosts.
The series saw India concede an eight-wicket defeat in Bengaluru, followed by a 113-run loss in Pune. The final Test in Indore saw Ajaz Patel and Glenn Phillips spin a web around the Indian batsmen, leading to a 25-run victory for New Zealand and a historic whitewash for the visitors.
