Melbourne Victory extended their winning streak to three games on Saturday evening, defeating Brisbane Roar 2-0 at AAMI Park. The match saw Victory dominate possession early on, with Ryan Teague narrowly missing the target with a free-kick and Nikos Vergos’ penalty appeals being dismissed. Brisbane, however, remained a threat, creating several dangerous chances through crosses into the penalty area.
The deadlock was broken just before half-time through a moment of individual brilliance from Reno Piscopo. After a dazzling run into the box, he set up Nishan Velupillay for a simple finish, giving Victory the lead.
Despite several substitutions in the second half, the second goal remained elusive for Victory until the 70th minute. Jason Geria, an unlikely source, headed home a corner from Teague to double the lead. Geria’s fourth A-League goal sealed the victory for Victory, who now sit atop the A-League Men’s ladder.
The win sets up a crucial clash against Wellington Phoenix this Sunday at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.
