**Sharjah, UAE:** A young Afghan spinner, Allah Ghazanfar, has etched his name in the record books by claiming a remarkable 6-wicket haul in the first ODI match against Bangladesh, securing a convincing 92-run victory for his team.
The 18-year-old Ghazanfar, playing only his second ODI, became the third youngest bowler in ODI history to achieve this feat, after Pakistan’s Waqar Younis and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan. He achieved this incredible milestone at the age of 18 years and 231 days.
Ghazanfar’s performance was instrumental in dismantling the Bangladesh batting lineup, with the last seven wickets falling for just 11 runs. He finished with figures of 6-26 in 6.3 overs, making it the second best bowling performance by an Afghan bowler in ODIs.
The match itself saw Afghanistan set a challenging target of 236 runs, thanks to a crucial 84-run knock from Mohammad Nabi and a steady 52-run contribution from captain Hashmatullah Shahidi. Despite a strong start by Bangladesh, Ghazanfar’s incredible spell ensured a dominant victory for Afghanistan.
This win gives Afghanistan a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, setting the stage for a thrilling contest. With Ghazanfar’s talent on display, Afghanistan is looking to make a significant mark in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
