Sat Nov 09 11:43:33 UTC 2024: ## Mushfiqur Rahim Ruled Out of Bangladesh’s ODI Series Against Afghanistan Due to Finger Injury

**Sharjah, UAE:** Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has been ruled out of the remaining ODIs against Afghanistan after fracturing his left index finger in the first match of the series. Bangladesh suffered a heavy 92-run defeat in the opening encounter.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that Rahim will not be available for the second and third ODIs and is currently undergoing treatment. “Mushfiqur sustained an injury to his left index finger while keeping during the latter part of Afghanistan’s batting innings,” said team physio Dilawar Hussain in a BCB statement. “A post-match X-ray confirmed a fracture of the left index finger near the DIP joint. He is under conservative management and is unavailable for the 2nd & 3rd ODIs. Further updates on his condition and expected recovery period will be provided in due course.”

The injury forced Rahim to bat at number seven, with Bangladesh struggling to chase down a 236-run target. He was dismissed for just 1 run by Mohammad Nabi. Nabi starred with the ball, taking 6-26 as Afghanistan bowled Bangladesh out for 143.

Bangladesh has not yet announced a replacement for Rahim as they trail 0-1 in the three-match series. Liton Das, who is recovering from illness, is likely to take on the wicketkeeping duties for the remaining matches.

Rahim’s finger injury raises concerns about his availability for the upcoming tour of the West Indies, which includes two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20s. He announced his retirement from T20Is in 2022.

The ODI series against Afghanistan concludes on November 11th in UAE, after which Bangladesh will depart for the Caribbean on November 15th for their tour, with the first Test scheduled for November 22nd in North Sound. The team for the West Indies tour has not yet been announced.
