Sat Nov 09 08:19:40 UTC 2024: ## Bomb Blast Kills 24 at Quetta Railway Station, Pakistan

**Quetta, Pakistan:** A deadly bomb blast ripped through the Quetta railway station on Saturday morning, killing at least 24 people and injuring over 50 others. The explosion occurred just before the Jaffer Express train was scheduled to arrive at the platform.

According to initial reports, the blast was likely a suicide bombing, although investigations are ongoing. The incident occurred around 9:00 AM local time, as passengers were waiting for the train’s departure to Peshawar. Eyewitnesses reported approximately 100 people were present on the platform at the time of the explosion.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif condemned the attack, which has yet to be claimed by any terrorist group. Emergency medical services were immediately dispatched to the scene, and a large number of casualties were transported to Quetta’s Civil Hospital, which declared a state of emergency.

The hospital confirmed that 46 people were receiving treatment, with many in critical condition. The death toll is expected to rise as the injured continue to receive medical attention.

Following the bombing, Balochistan Chief Minister Siraj Bugti convened an emergency meeting and ordered an immediate investigation. He vowed that those responsible for targeting innocent civilians would face severe consequences.

Security forces have secured the railway station and bomb disposal experts are currently on the scene. Authorities are expected to release an official report on the incident shortly.

This attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Pakistan. In November, a remote-controlled bomb killed 7 people, including 5 schoolchildren, and injured 22 others. In October, gunmen killed 20 coal miners in a separate incident in the country’s Balochistan province.

The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for a number of recent attacks in Pakistan, including a bombing near Karachi Airport on October 12th that killed two Chinese engineers and injured 17 others.
