**Bridgetown, Barbados** – West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph has been banned for two matches following an on-field altercation with captain Shai Hope during the third ODI against England on Wednesday. The incident, which saw Joseph react angrily and walk off the field after taking the wicket of Jordan Cox, occurred during the match at Kensington Oval.
Reports suggest the fast bowler was unhappy with the field settings and expressed his dissatisfaction. This led to a heated exchange with Hope, followed by Joseph leaving the field.
Coach Daren Sammy publicly criticized Joseph’s actions, promising to have a strong conversation with the player. Despite the incident, the West Indies went on to win the match, but Joseph’s outburst overshadowed the series victory.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) issued a statement on Friday confirming the two-match suspension, stating that the incident was reviewed in consultation with the senior team coaching staff. The statement highlighted CWI’s commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and integrity within the sport.
Joseph has since apologized for his actions, acknowledging that his passion got the better of him. He expressed regret for the disappointment he caused and stated that he personally apologized to Hope, the team, and management.
The ban could see Joseph miss the first two matches of the upcoming T20I series against England, which begins on Saturday.
