**Bridgetown, Barbados** – West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has been handed a two-match suspension after displaying unacceptable behavior during his team’s series-clinching victory over England in the third ODI. The incident occurred in the fourth over of the match when Joseph dismissed Jordan Cox but then stormed off the field, seemingly upset with the field set by captain Shai Hope.
Joseph’s abrupt exit left West Indies momentarily down to 10 players, and he did not celebrate the wicket with his teammates. When questioned about the incident, Hope declined to comment.
“Behavior like that is unacceptable on my cricket field,” said West Indies head coach Daren Sammy, adding that he would be addressing the situation with Joseph. “We will be friends… but in the culture I’m trying to build, that’s unacceptable.”
Cricket West Indies (CWI) later confirmed the suspension, stating that Joseph’s actions did not align with the organization’s core values. “Such conduct cannot be overlooked and we have taken decisive action to ensure the gravity of the situation is fully acknowledged,” said CWI director of cricket Miles Bascombe.
Joseph has since apologized for his actions, stating that “passion got the best of me.” He expressed regret for any disappointment caused by his behavior.
The incident sparked debate among commentators, with some criticizing Joseph’s unprofessionalism while others acknowledged his passionate nature.
“I’m sure there will be repercussions for Joseph,” said Sky Sports commentator Mark Butcher. “Use any anger against the opposition, don’t go walking off the field, hurting your own team. Protect your captain, for better or for worse.”
Former West Indies captain Jason Holder described the incident as “not what you want to see,” while Sir Alastair Cook, who has never seen Joseph show such emotion, added: “I’ve never seen Alzarri have any reaction whatsoever. Never talk, never celebrate, never open his mouth. He just runs in and bowls jaffas – but I quite liked it as it shows he cares.”
Joseph is now set to miss the upcoming T20 double header against England at the Kensington Oval.
