Bridgetown, Barbados – In a dramatic turn of events during the third ODI between West Indies and England at Kensington Oval on Wednesday, pacer Alzaari Joseph was caught leaving the field following a heated disagreement with captain Shai Hope.
The incident occurred in the fourth over of England’s innings. Having bowled a tight first over, Joseph appeared unhappy with the field placements in his second over, engaging in a heated exchange with Hope, likely regarding the positioning of slip fielders.
Despite dismissing Jordan Cox three balls later, Joseph barely celebrated and continued to argue with his captain. Following the completion of the over, the visibly frustrated Joseph walked off the field, with former captain and current head coach Darren Sammy attempting to calm him down from the boundary ropes. However, Joseph continued to the dressing room.
Joseph returned to the field shortly after, but was not immediately brought back into the action. Despite the brief disruption, West Indies went on to take two more wickets in the following six overs.
England eventually recovered from their early wobble, posting a respectable total of 263/8 in 50 overs thanks to impressive contributions from Phil Salt (74), Sam Curran (40), Dan Mousley (57), Jamie Overton (32) and Jofra Archer (38 not out).
However, West Indies cruised to victory in reply, reaching their target in 43 overs with eight wickets to spare. Brandon King (109) and Keacy Carty (128 not out) both struck magnificent centuries to seal the win for the home side.
While West Indies celebrated their victory, the incident involving Joseph and Hope will likely be a hot topic of conversation in the coming days. The West Indies team management is yet to comment on the situation.
