Fri Nov 08 02:21:25 UTC 2024: ## Tiruchi Women Showcase Millet-Based Recipes at Cookery Contest
**Tiruchi, November 8, 2024:** Fourteen teams representing women’s self-help groups (SHGs) took part in a cookery competition and food festival at the Tiruchi District Collectorate office on Thursday. The event, organized by the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihoods Mission (Mahalir Thittam), aimed to promote millet-based diets and traditional recipes.
The competition, held under the theme “Anaemia-free Villages,” saw the SHGs showcase their culinary skills, having previously won first place in block-level competitions. Officials from Mahalir Thittam and the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) judged the entries.
Mahalir Thittam Project Director S. Suresh encouraged women to utilize social media platforms to advertise and market their millet-based products. He emphasized the importance of catering to specific demographics like athletes and senior citizens who regularly consume millets. “SHGs must adapt to customer requirements and be ready to serve them at their doorstep if necessary,” he advised.
DRDA Project Director S. Gangadharani highlighted the role of SHGs in reviving millet-based recipes, contributing to a more balanced diet for future generations.
Officials from the departments of Social Welfare and Integrated Child Development Services also participated in the event.
