Thu Nov 07 22:09:34 UTC 2024: ## Shreyas Iyer Blasts Double Century in Ranji Trophy, Reignites India Hopes

**Mumbai, India:** Shreyas Iyer continued his stellar form in the Ranji Trophy, smashing his third first-class double century against Odisha at the BKC Ground in Mumbai on Thursday. The former India batter, who had been out of form and sidelined due to injuries, has now hit back with a century in his previous match and a double century in this one.

Iyer, who last scored a first-class hundred on his Test debut in November 2021, reached the milestone in just 201 balls, smashing 22 fours and 8 sixes. His innings came after a century in 101 balls in the previous day, demonstrating his renewed confidence and aggressive approach.

His partner, Siddhesh Lad, played a crucial supporting role, remaining unbeaten on 116 to ensure Mumbai took total control of the match.

This double century was Iyer’s first in first-class cricket since 2017 and his first Ranji Trophy double century since 2015. The performance has reignited his hopes of a return to the Indian Test team. Iyer was part of the squad for the England series earlier this year but had to withdraw due to a back injury.

“I am very keen for a comeback but (would try to) control the controllables,” Iyer stated earlier this month. “My job is to keep performing and keep participating as much as possible and also see that my body is in the best shape. So I’ll make the best decision possible according to that.”

With this exceptional performance, Iyer has staked a strong claim for a spot in the Indian Test team, showcasing his form and determination to make a comeback to the highest level of cricket.
