Thu Nov 07 16:21:21 UTC 2024: ## Madurai High Court Orders Inspection of Rajaji Hospital Building After Ceiling Collapse
**Madurai, November 7, 2024:** The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has ordered an urgent inspection of the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) in Madurai following reports of a ceiling collapse in a building on the campus. The court has directed the Dean of the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, to appoint a Head of Department to form a committee with the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department and the Dean of GRH to assess the structural stability of the building.
The court initiated suo motu proceedings in September after news reports surfaced about the dilapidated condition of the building. The court has ordered the committee to submit a report by December 12th.
The court had earlier requested suggestions for independent engineers to certify the structural integrity of the buildings. It has also directed the GRH Dean to submit a detailed report on the extent of damage and the buildings requiring renovation or reconstruction in consultation with PWD officials.
The court is expected to take further action based on the findings of the inspection committee.
